What would OUR future look like if every child had
100 books at home?
capital District of Kiwanis Midyear conference service project
1 Day. 1 Bookmobile. 1,000 Books.
Kids who grow up in homes without books have a literacy rate 50% below average. In Baltimore, only 24% of students are proficient in reading (English Language Arts). We are supporting families of diverse backgrounds to raise children who are readers, storytellers, and lifelong learners.
We’re on a mission to develop the whole child. And we need your help.
We’ve curated a huge reading list of books that speak to the lived experiences of our youth. As part of the Winter/Spring Book Drive, you can purchase these books and they will go directly into the homes of Baltimore’s children.
With our school and nonprofit partners, we’re building 200 home libraries that consist of 100 new books each.
You can donate a full library or purchase copies of books. Help us spread the word. You have the power to transform lives for the better.

Capital District of Kiwanis
The Capital District of Kiwanis International (composed of all the Kiwanis Clubs in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia) was organized on August 29, 1918 with only two clubs. Now, over 100 years later, the Capital District remains active with 7 regions, 18 divisions and over 155 clubs.
For its mid-year conference service project this year, Kiwanis partnered with Baltimore Read Aloud to provide books to children who otherwise may not have access to them. Attendees were invited to make a book donation in support of the Spring 2025 book drive campaign.
